If you ever happen to be hanging out with us and think to yourself, ‘Geez, I am sure getting hungry. We should grab a bite to eat soon. Would Kelsey and Kristin enjoy some Mexican food?’ The answer is always a yes! So here we were, the last night in New York, at a small little Mexican food restaurant in Hell’s Kitchen called Ponche Taqueria & Cantina.
The Restaurant itself is tiny and very busy. There’s one guy trying to take all the orders in the restaurant while also fielding all the take-out calls as well. It’s a newer place but it’s popularity is growing almost as fast as the guy behind the counter is running around. The tables fill up quick in the evenings but even if you do have to wait outside for a table, it will be worth it once you get inside. It’s simple and a little cramped but it’s a very casual and homey place. They don’t serve alcohol but feel free to BYOB and they’ll at least set you up with some glasses.
Their house guacamole was a great way to start off the meal. We went with quesadillas for our meals which were absolutely great as well, both the veggie and the shrimp. They’re tacos are also a very popular choice with several different varieties to pick and choose from. The fish tacos seem to be a hit there and we wish we could go back and give those a try, too.
It’s a great stop to make if you’re in the area and craving Mexican. It took us a minute to finally find the place but once we had and were enjoying our delicious food we were glad we hadn’t settled for a quick slice of pizza a few blocks back.
